CatFish (Pterygoplichthys) Invasion In Indonesian River

Catfish or better known as "sapu-sapu" is a fish that used to come from rivers on the American continent. This fish is an omnivorous fish that eats a variety of remaining organic material available. At first, this fish was brought to Indonesia as an ornamental fish in the aquarium. however, there is one irresponsible owner who throws this fish into the river. Due to the high ability to survive, and its nature can eat everything. Without predators who can prey on this fish breed very quickly in the Indonesian river. The fact is that these fish are now scattered throughout the Indonesian river. This fish is also a threat to endemic fish in Indonesian rivers.

After learning about this the Indonesian government began to take several steps to resolve this issue. Like holding a race to catch catfish, like what happened in the kemuning river a few months ago. In fact, two tons of catfish can be caught that day.

to prevent the same thing from happening again, it needs to be planted that releasing animals that are not from its ecosystem can damage the ecosystem. It could be that the animals released have the potential to dominate and threaten endemic animals in a region.
